PLAYER PATHWAY (2).png

A pathway for every child

At Somerset State Basketball, our player pathway is built around one simple belief: every child deserves access to great coaching and the opportunity to learn and develop through basketball. Our curriculum-led coaching programme is open to all ages, all abilities, boys and girls, whether a child is picking up a basketball for the first time or already has experience. Sessions focus on fun, confidence, movement, and skill development in a positive, supportive environment — because great learning happens when children feel safe, included, and encouraged.

We also understand that not every child wants to play games or join leagues, and for many, stepping into a coaching session is a big win in itself. There is no pressure to commit to teams or competitions — just basketball, enjoyment, and learning. For those who do want to take the next step, our All-Star Programme provides a clear progression. Players who are ready may be spotted and invited to join, where they train at a higher level and experience games alongside continued development. This flexible pathway ensures every child can find their place in basketball — at their own pace, in their own way.

Somerset State All Stars

The next step in the Somerset State Pathway

Somerset State All Stars is our competitive programme for players who are ready to take the next step in their basketball development and journey. It sits directly within our player pathway, bridging the gap between coaching centres and league competition.

The All Stars teams compete in the West of England Basketball League, giving players regular fixtures against opposition teams, allowing players to apply what they learn in training to real game situations.

Interested players attend our pre season trial day to be assessed for their suitability for the league. Players can also be recommended by their coaching centre coach to attend a mid season trial to see whether it is for them. (All Stars is an invite only session).
